CANADA
Canada occupies the northern half of the North-American continent. It is the second-largest country in the world after Russia. From east to west Canada covers six time zones.
To the south, Canada has an 8892 km boundary with the United States. To the north, the arctic islands are within 800 km of the North Pole. Canada’s neighbour across the Arctic Ocean is Russia.
Canada has 10 provinces & 2 territories, each with its own capital city. Ottawa is the capital of the country, in the province of Ontario. The leading Canadian cities are Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa-Hill, the National Capital Region and Edmonton. Canada’s population is about 27,3 million.
Canada has a number of mountain chains: the Torogats, Appalachians & Laurentians in the east; the Rocky, Coastal and Mackenzie chains in the west.
If you fly over Manitoba or northern Ontario in summer, you will see more water than land: lakes, big and small, so many that they could not possibly be counted. Canada has one seventh of the world’s fresh water. In addition with the Great Lakes which Canada shares with the United States, there are many large rivers and lakes. Great Bear Lake in the Northwest Territories is the largest lake situated in Canada; its area is 31 326 km.
Тhe St. Lawrence River, which is 3058 km long, is a seaway for ships from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean. The Mackenzie is the longest river, flowing 4241km through the Northern Territories.
Canada is a constitutional monarchy and a federal state with the democratic Parliament. The Parliament of Canada, in Ottawa, consists of the House of Commons, whose members are elected, and the Senate, whose members are appointed. On average, members of the Parliament are elected every four years. Тhе maple leaf is the country’s most important symbol since the 1700. The national flag was introduced in 1965.

1. Видо-временные формы глагола:
времена группы Continuous (Present, Past, Future) действительного залога; времена группы Perfect (Present, Past, Future) действительного залога.
2. Модальные глаголы и их эквиваленты:
а) выражающие возможность: can - could, may - might, to be able to;
б) выражающие долженствование: must, to have to, to be to, should.
3. Простые неличные формы глагола:
а) Participle I (причастие настоящего времени);
б) Participle II (причастие прошедшего времени).
4. Определительные и дополнительные союзные придаточные предложения в составе сложноподчиненных предложений.
