Negative Aspects Of Globalization
Лебедева А. — студ. 2 курса
Научный руководитель — доц. Коломенская С. А.
The aim of my research was to examine the negative aspects of globalization. The main issues addressed in the work are: a) the economic aspect, b) political changes, c) world as the «global village» and d) the cultural aspect of the problem.
Firstly, owing to the fact that some nations have economic advantages of globalization, others are becoming more and more dependent from the leading, developed states. The governments of powerful nations, transnational cooperation, the World Bank and the WTO are the main subjects of economic globalization. They control the monetary system and international trade. The countries of the third world just provide cheap labour to attract investors and to provide raw materials. Only strong and successful competitors survive, therefore the gap between the rich and the poor is increasing, both between countries and within countries.
Unbalanced distribution of benefits between countries certainly has some political consequences. The process of globalization was always accompanied by conflicts, competitions, domination and exploitation. A neo-colonialism has appeared after the opening of the national boundaries for free market. It allows both economical and political domination over the poor nations.
However, there is some prominent argument against globalization. American Vice Admiral Thomas R. Wilson announced, «globalization is the main reason of terror attacks». The Vice Admiral believes that the terrorists accused the USA of all troubles in the world, looking for their allies in the countries, groups of people, who did not accept the American supremacy.
It’s a well-known fact that the world has turned in the «global village». As a result of the rapid development of infrastructure and industry (e. g., the speed of transport, mobile telephones), the worlds division of labour, people have another sense of time and space. A person is not able to adopt all the information, that is presented, visit every place, what he or she may visit. The possibility of transporting goods, people, information in short time on enormous distances, create the feeling, that the Earth has become «small», and therefore, vulnerable.
Nowadays we come across cultural hegemony. A good illustration for this is film making in the Hollywood. About 75% of all feature films seen in Europe are American in origin and the European film industry faces the threat of extinction. The Hollywood is a monopolist in the sphere of global market for films and there is no suitable competitor for it. Europeans experts announced that only the Hollywood possesses the distribution networks all over the world (agreements with cinemas in every country). Therefore it allows them to justify such enormous budgets. As a result the Hollywood benefits from the globalization, while vast majority of the countries meet with failure.

Trafficking in human beings
Герасина О. — студ. 1 курса

What is trafficking in human beings?
Human trafficking is modern-day slavery. It is the third largest and fastest growing criminal industry in the world, victimizing millions of people and getting billions in profits.
Human trafficking may take many forms, including trafficking: in the sex industry; into forced labor in factories, restaurants, or agricultural work; into domestic servitude as a servant, housekeeper, or nanny; of organs. Human trafficking is considered one of the most urgent human rights issues in the world today.
Why human trafficking is so popular nowadays?
Trafficking in persons is the fastest growing criminal industry in the world for two primary reasons: high profits can be made quickly, with little or no start-up capital, and profits can be derived over a long period of time from the same victims (unlike drugs, which are quickly used up), and the fact that despite its criminal nature, the risk of prosecution is usually negligible.
Who are traffickers?
Traffickers may operate as individuals, families, or more organized groups of criminals, and are facilitated by other 'indirect' beneficiaries, such as advertising, distribution, or retail companies and consumers. Much human trafficking occurs through decentralized criminal networks, or small groups of criminals that specialize in certain areas of a network.
Who are the victims of human trafficking?
Victims of trafficking often come from vulnerable populations, including undocumented migrants, runaways and at-risk youth, oppressed groups, and the poor. Traffickers specifically target individuals in these populations because they are often easiest to recruit and control and are least likely to be protected by law enforcement.
Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children (supplements the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime)
Essentially, the Protocol is intended to prevent trafficking in persons and facilitate international cooperation against such trafficking. It provides control and cooperation measures against traffickers. It also provides some measures to protect and assist the victims. Law enforcement agencies of countries that ratify the Protocol would be required to cooperate with such things as the identification of offenders and trafficked persons, sharing information about the methods of offenders and the training of investigators, enforcement and victim support personnel. Countries would also be required to implement security and border controls to detect and prevent trafficking.
