Information for Contributors to "Water Resources Research" [17]

General Policy

Original scientific contributions in physical sciences and social and policy sciences relating to water resources will be considered for publication in "Water Resources Research".
Specifications

Authors should carefully edit manuscripts for style, spelling, grammar, syntax, and clarity before submitting them; strive for clarity of presentation to an audience with a large breadth of interest; write as economically as possible; and prepare focused, complete papers.

Type text on only one side of paper.
Typescript

All parts of the paper must be typed with double or, preferably, triple spacing on good quality white, 21.5 x 28 cm (8-1/2 x 11 inches) paper with 2.5 cm (1 inch) margins at top, bottom, and sides. Pages should be numbered at the top right corner. Manuscripts must be in the following order: title page, abstract, introduction, text, appendix (if any), acknowledgments, references, figure captions, tables, and figures.

Manuscripts should conform to the standard scientific style: introduction, methods, results and discussion. The introduction should identify the important question or issue that is the focus of research in terms that can be easily understood by a general reader. The discussion should describe the important inferences deriving from the work in terms that make the importance clear to the reader. Appropriate SI units should be used throughout.
Title page

This is a separate page and should contain the title of manuscript and author(s) name(s), affiliation, address, zip or country code.
Abstract

The single-paragraph abstract (150 words or fewer) should state the nature of the investigation and summarize its important conclusions. Phrases such as "this paper describes" or "the paper presents" should be avoided. Use of the passive voice is discouraged, since this construction frequently makes it difficult to determine whether the authors or others were responsible for the action described.
Acknowledgments

The assistance given by the referees should be acknowledged at the end of each paper. Acknowledgments should be limited to collegial and financial assistance.

References


A complete and accurate reference list is of major importance. Omissions, discrepancies in the spelling of names, errors in titles, and incorrect years make citations annoying, if not worthless, to the reader and cast doubts on the reliability of the author as well.

Only works cited in the text should be cited in the reference list (all references in the reference list must be referenced in the text). References are cited in the text by the last name of the author and the year: [Jones, 1994]. If the author's name is part of the sentence, only the year is bracketed.

References are arranged alphabetically by the last names of authors. Multiple entries for a single author are arranged chronologically. Two or more publications by the same author in the same year are distinguished by a, b, c, after the year. Make sure that years in the list of references agree with those cited in the text.

References to papers delivered at meetings should include title of paper, full name of meeting, sponsor, meeting site, and date.

References to books should include the inclusive page numbers of material being cited.

Names of periodicals should be written out in full or abbreviated according to the system employed by the Chemical Abstracts Service. One-word titles should be given in full (e.g., Science, Nature). It is permissible to dive only the initial page number of a paper but preferable to give the range of pages.

General Policy


The Bulletin of the Geological Society of Finland publishes papers, scientific communications and discussions in all branches of geoscience. Contributions outside Finland are acceptable, providing that they contain material relevant to Finnish geology or are of general interest.
Specifications

Acceptable articles will be concise, generally no more than 20 printed pages and must be preceded by a short abstract comprising only essential contents and conclusions. Scientific communications and discussions are published without abstracts.

Every paper will be reviewed by at least two independent referees selected by the Editor.

Articles must be written clearly and concisely in English. With the exception of tables, manuscripts should be typed on one side of the page only, with double spacing using font size 12 and with wide margins. Pages must be numbered consecutively and the first line of each paragraph should be intended.

Authors are requested to submit the final text as two paper copies and on an unused, newly formatted 3.5 inch disk together with original figures and tables. The format (MS-DOS/PC-DOS) and word processing program used (preferably Word or WordPerfect) must be clearly indicated.

РІШЕННЯ

Української комісії з питань правничої термінології

№ 9

Протокол №2 від 19 квітня 1996 р.

Комісія, розглянувши на підставі п.6 ч.4 Положення про Українську комісію з питань правничої термінології питання щодо затвердження таблиці для відтворення українських власних назв засобами англійської мови та правил до неї, спираючись на подання Інституту української мови НАН України, УХВАЛИЛА:

1. Затвердити як нормативну таблицю для відтворення українських власних назв засобами англійської мови та правила до неї (додається).

2. На підставі п.7 Положення про Українську комісію з питань правничої термінології встановити, що нормативна таблиця застосовується при відтворенні українських власних назв засобами англійської мови у законодавчих та офіційних актах.

3. Визначити, що роз’яснення щодо особливостей застосування таблиці та висновки щодо правильності її застосування надає Інститут української мови НАН України (за його згодою), із погодженням, у разі необхідності, з Комісією.

Правила відтворення українських власних назв засобами англійської мови

1. Відтворення українських власних назв засобами англійської мови відбувається з їх української форми, записаної відповідно до чинного правопису, без посередництва будь-якої іншої мови.

2. Відтворення українських власних назв засобами англійської мови відбувається шляхом транслітерації (політерного перезапису за допомогою латинського алфавіту). Міжмовні алфавітні відповідники подано в нормативній таблиці, коментар до якої наведено нижче.

3. Вимоги цих правил не обов’язкові для запису українських імен іноземних громадян

Коментар до нормативної таблиці: У певних сферах відтворення українських власних назв вживається спрощений варіант запису, що передбачає:

а) орфографічне спрощення громіздкого подвоєння приголосних ж, х, ц, ч, ш, які відтворюються буквосполученнями zh, kh, th, ch, sh, наприклад, Запоріжжя - Zaporizhia,

б) апостроф і знак пом’якшення (за винятком буквосполучень -ьо-, -ьї-, що завжди передаються як -’o-, -’i-) у спрощеній транслітерації не відтворюються.
