The author considers in brief the activity of Russian orthodox spiritual mission in China. Китае. The activity of the 18th Russian orthodox spiritual mission led by archimandrite Innokenty (Figurovsky), later Peking and Chinese metropolitan is presented in detail. The numerical structure of mission is given, mutual relations with Chinese authorities, including relations with Protestant and Catholic missionaries are presented. Innokenty’s personal contribution in restoration and expansion of mission influence is shown. Problems and difficulties which have taken place before Russian-Japanese war of 1904–1905 and in its process are considered.

The purpose of this article is to determine the basic moments of the public activity of M.S. Gruchevsky (1866–1934) who was the greatest Ukrainian scientist, historian and politician during the First world war, including his psychological state, orientation of his personal and professional contacts from 1915 up to March 1917, summary of his publicistic works of that period and his evolution by February, 1917. Gruchevsky’s curriculum vitaes, memoirs, diaries, publicistic works correspondence of the scientist, archival and published documents were used as sources of the study carried out. A special attention is paid to Gruchevsky’s interpretation of national problem, including that of: self-determination of «small peoples».

Approaches about explanations of Livon war genesis and sense (1558–1583) (the theory of world system, and population and ecology model) accepted in domestic historic science are analyzed. From the point of view of civilization approach the author considers this war as a system conflict between Islamic, Western and East-European civilizations, the result of this war determined the development of World System and fundamental principles of its construction («ecological» or «golographic» model).

The conclusion is drawn that the panorama of Stalin terror is presented in this book, but some conceptual positions seem disputable, especially in the context of the last research of this scientist.
