«Consider communism as religious movement». The report of W. Bullit, the American ambassador in the USSR, as of April, 20th, 1936. Translated from English, foreword and comments by O.N. Ken and V.A. Raikova 18

Translation of the political report of William Bullit, the first American ambassador in the USSR, in which original interpretation of the essence of the Soviet state and communism is given, is offered to readers’ attention.

In the prolusion anticipating the text of the report, brief data about the ambassador, the state of American-Soviet relationships in 1936, the history of writing of the official report and its further destiny are presented.

Solodkin Ya.G. (Nizhnevartovsk). From history of early political essays of Moscow Smuta 26

The brief story concerning the events of 1598, 1604–1606, supplementing two documents of «Solovetksy letopicetz» (editions of the end of the XVI century) and not known before belongs to early publicist compositions of time of troubles. Most likely this story has arisen on Solovki in the first months of Vasily Shuisky’s reign (after Dmitry Uglichskiy's canonization). It can suppose that a number of informative data with definitive dates belonging to the anonymous publicist, are connected with district letters. It is possible that the periodization of Lzhedmitry’s reign offered in this story is connected with the personal impressions of the author.

In this article the general tendencies of development of historical representations about special secret services of 1918–1920 are analyzed.

In this article, opinions of the American historians investigating history of the Second world war, and especially policy of Hitlerite Germany towards Soviet war prisoner are generalized. The author uses memoirs of war prisoners of German concentration camps and Soviet citizens imprisoned in camps of the USSR.

As exemplified by the provinces of the Central Chernozem region, the analysis of the mechanism с Stolupin’s land-use management is given. Motive for the peasants strengthening their allotments and the reason of weak development in this region of farm facilities are found out. The conclusion is drawn that the peasantry in its majority was not ready to refuse traditional economic way in favour of individual land-use management.
