ИА REUTERS (US), November 13, 2008, Reporting by Masha GORDEYEVA; Writing by Olzhas AUYEZOV, KAZAKHSTAN WANTS TO BUY 3 PCT OF CPC FROM RUSSIA

Kazakhstan wants to buy from Russia roughly half of the seven percent stake in the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) that Moscow has acquired from Oman, a senior Kazakh energy official said on Thursday.

The pipeline group is led by U.S. major Chevron (CVX.N: ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта) and includes Russian pipeline company Transneft (TRNF_p.RTS: ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта), ExxonMobil (XOM.N: ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта), Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.L: ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта), LUKOIL (LKOH.MM: ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта) and BP (BP.L: ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта, ссылка скрыта).

The group exports Kazakh and Russian oil CPC-E from a terminal near the Russian port of Novorossiisk. Russia owns 31 percent in CPC while Kazakhstan has 19 percent.

"We are discussing with Russia a purchase of about three percent out of the seven percent (previously owned by Oman)," Askar Batalov, the Executive Secretary of Kazakhstan's Energy Ministry, told reporters.

He said the talks would take "a month or two."

Russia's state property agency, which holds Oman's former stake, declined to comment on the issue.

Russia is involved in protracted discussions with other shareholders of the group on terms by which the route's capacity could be expanded. Industry sources have said Oman was frustrated with delays in the planned expansion of the route.

CPC has been shipping oil since 2001. It pumps up to 750,000 barrels per day to Russia for re-export to the Mediterranean.

Swedish telecoms company Ericsson is set to expand in Kazakhstan.

In 2008, the company's sales grew 50 per cent in comparison to the same period during the previous year, while the opening of a new office for the expansion of company staff is good evidence of the company's long-run intentions to develop Ericsson in Kazakhstan, reported web-site RosInvest.com.

"For the last several years we have observed the Kazakh telecommunications market's development...We are ready to support the telecommunications industry's development in the country in accordance with international standards," said the Chief of the Ericsson representative office in Kazakhstan, Soren Ahlstedt.
