^ THE INTERNATIONAL FORUM

FROM RUSSIAN “SILVER AGE” TO “THE NEW RENAISSANCE”

(dedicated to the 80th anniversary of S. M. Slonimsky)

April 4–7, 2012

The Forum will include:
  • The competition festival for performers ”Playing Slonimsky”;
  • Research and practice conference “Music speech is inexhaustible like the very human soul”;
  • Music theatre festival “Elemental freedom of creativity”; and
  • Master-classes “Free Art of Music”.


^ THE COMPETITION FESTIVAL FOR PERFORMERS

PLAYING SLONIMSKY”


The competition festival for performers is a part of the International Forum.

^ Its objectives are:

– to find and support gifted musicians in and outside of Russia; and

– to popularize music by S. M. Slonimsky.

The competition festival is open for students and teachers from national and international educational institutions of any kind and level, as well as for concert and theatre performers.

No age limit is set.

Duration limit is 15 min.

To take part in the competion festival the application form (see Attachment 1) should be submitted to the Organization Committee with the repertory enclosed which must feature one or more pieces by S. M. Slonimsky (see Attachment 2).

  1. ^ Competition festival order

Auditions will be held in one round.

All auditions are public.

All participants from other cities and countries will be provided with practice facilities at the College of Music and rehearsals in the concert halls.

Laureates are bound to the final gala, after which special prizes will be awarded.

  1. Prizes and awards

Evaluation criteria are:
  • individual vision of the repertory;
  • observation of style and compositional principles while realizing one’s individual artistic concept;
  • culture of performance (architectonic feeling, sonorous sound palette, good intonation, precise articulation, expressiveness of dynamics and etc.);
  • technical skills in overcoming challenges of repertory;
  • artistry and brightness of self-expression.

All participants of the competition festival will be granted honorable mentions. The Jury has right to award laureateship to the brightest performers.

Special «GROTRIAN-STEINWEG» prize is intended for the best interpretation of S. M. Slonimsky’s piano composition on a grand piano of the make (prize established by «ФОРТКАНТ» company).

  1. Jury

The Jury will consist of internationally acclaimed musicians.

The Jury will use 10-score system of evaluation. The Organization Committee shall appoint the commission of returns.

The decisions of the Jury are final and beyond appeal.

  1. ^ Organization Committee

The Organization Committee has been formed to organize and carry out the International Forum. The members of the Organization Committee have been appointed by the Rector of the A. I. Herzen RSPU.

The Organization Committee reserves all the rights for audio/video recording of the competition without any payment to the participants, including whatever further use of the above materials at any time in methodological and educational contexts of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate training courses, which A. I. Herzen RSPU faculty develop.

  1. ^ Financial regulations

The Entry Competition Fees for participants of the competition festival are 1000 Rub for soloists; 500 Rub per person for chamber ensembles and 5000 Rub per group for groups of more than 15 persons.

The Entry Fee is not refundable.

All traveling, accommodation and other expenses are the responsibility of the sending party or the participants.

Participants must acquire their passports, visas and medical insurances on their own.

The Organization Committee can help to reserve an accommodation in the Herzen University Hostel or other hotels of St. Petersburg.
