Характеристики урока:
  1. Тип урока: комбинированный
  2. Цели урока: а) углубить и закрепить знания учащихся по теме «Соединенное королевство Великобритании и Северной Ирландии»; увеличить словарный запас учащихся.

б) развить интерес к истории, традициям и нравам страны изучаемого языка.

в) активизировать речевую деятельность учащихся на уроке английского языка путем использования различных видов упражнений.

3. Оборудование: карта Великобритании, картинки с изображениями флагов,

символов и столиц стран, входящих в состав

Соединенного королевства, карточки с текстами,

мультимедийный проектор.


Ход урока:


I. Организационный момент

Teacher: Good afternoon, children! Glad to see you!

Pupils: Good afternoon, teacher.

T.: Sit down, please.

T.: What day is it today?

T.: Who is absent?


II. Сообщение цели урока

T.: Today we are going to speak about the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. You already know a lot about Britain and its people, but some things are easily forgotten. Let’s brush up our knowledge. You’ll have many tasks today, be attentive and try to remember everything we’ll speak about. Let’s start our lesson!


II. Фонетическая разминка

T.: Today I want you to learn a new tongue twister. Look at the blackboard, write it down in your copy-book and repeat after me:

Mr. Tongue Twister tried to train his tongue to twist and turn, and twit and twat, to learn the letter "T".

(ученики читают скороговорку хором, а затем по одному)

III. Речевая разминка

T.: Look at the blackboard. This is a map of the UK. Let’s remember how many countries are there in the UK? What are they? I have cards with the capitals of these countries. Please, take them and put it on the right place on the map.

P1: Wales (Cardiff is a capital of Wales)

P2: Scotland (Edinburgh is a capital of Scotland)

P3: England (London is a capital of England)

P4: Northern Ireland (Belfast is a capital of Northern Ireland)

T.: Well done! I think that was an easy task for you. Now I want you to give more difficult task. Look at these cards. These are the symbols of the countries you have just named and have found on the map. Tell me, please, what is the symbol of Wales?

P1: The daffodil is the symbol of Wales.

T.: Right you are. And of Northern Ireland?

P2: The shamrock is the symbol of Northern Ireland.

T: Ok. What is the symbol of England?

P3: The Red Rose is the emblem of England.

T: Right! And the symbol of Scotland is …?

P4: The thistle is the symbol of Scotland.

T: Great!


IV. Развитие навыков аудирования:

T.: I see you remember a lot about the UK. And I am sure you will easily cope with the next task. Now you’ll see a short film about the UK and then you’ll do the test in your textbooks.

(учащиеся просматривают короткий фильм о Великобритании, который поможет им ответить на вопросы теста)


V. Выполнение теста по теме “The UK”

T: Open your books on page 88, ex. 2. Look through the statements and make up the right choice.

(учащиеся самостоятельно выполняют тест, а затем проверяют вместе)

T: Which of you has no mistakes? Perfect!


VI. Совершенствование навыков поискового чтения:

T.: Your task is to read the text about some interesting facts in British culture and answer my questions.

Text:

It’s interesting to know…

The UK changed a lot nowadays, but there are still many interesting traditions and customs1 in British culture. Most British live in towns and cities, but they love their countryside. The countryside means peace and quiet, beauty and no crime2 for the British people. People in Britain are fond of gardening. They like to plant and grow different flowers. And they like to keep pets. One of the symbols of England is the bulldog.

The British are the sport loving nation. The most popular sports are soccer, rugby and cricket. Horse-racing3, “the sport of Kings” is very popular too. Traditionally, the favourite sports of British upper class4 are hunting (especially fox-hunting), shooting5 and fishing.

People in the UK like to spend their free time in pubs. It is a place where people talk, eat, drink, meet their friends and have competitions in darts. Pubs are so popular in the UK that there are over 60,000 pubs there.

British police is unarmed6. The policemen are called “Bobbies”. In Britain drivers must drive on the left.

The British are considered7 to be reserved and rather haughty8 people. They rarely shake hands and seldom embrace9 one another. Their reserved10 character is usually described with the help of expression11 “to keep a stiff upper lip” (проявлять твердость характера).

T: Ok. I believe you are ready to answer my questions now. Let’s start our quiz:
  1. What does the countryside mean for the British?
  2. British people like pets, don’t they?
  3. What pet is one of the symbols of England?
  4. What is the name of the sport of Kings?
  5. What are popular English sports?
  6. How many pubs are there in the UK?
  7. What is the name for the British policemen?
  8. How can you describe British character?

T.: Well done! I hope you will remember the new information about the UK.


VII. Тренировка навыков монологической речи (ex.4, p. 91)

T: Now let’s see who in your class knows the capital of the UK best. (Учащиеся выбирают двух-трех человек, которые лучше всех отвечали на вопросы. Им выдаются учебники English IV, English V для выполнения задания).

T: Pupils, you will be guests from London and other children will ask you questions.

(учитель распределяет вопросы, и учащиеся готовят небольшие монологические высказывания по теме)

T: Thank you for your answers.


VIII. Итоги урока

T: You are going to have a quiz on the topic “Britain Now and Then” next time. Get ready to give the most important information on the items of ex.9, page 94.

(учитель подводит итоги и оценивает работу учеников)

T: Thank you for the lesson! Good bye!
